Cutting argument: Woman chops dad’s hand over rice and magic
A shocking incident occurred today in Udon Thani, where a woman attacked her father with a large knife, severing his hand from the wrist. The altercation reportedly stemmed from the father’s insistence that she cooks rice daily and accusations of him practicing black magic.
Officers from the Mueang Udon Thani Police Station received an emergency call about the incident at a house in Ban Nong Tum Nong Yai, Ban Chan sub-district. Deputy Inspector Sataaporn Sawasdee, along with a patrol unit and community officers, promptly arrived at the scene.
Upon arrival, they found a woman standing at the entrance of the house, brandishing a knife nearly 1 metre long. She blocked the officers’ entry, making the situation tense. After extensive negotiations, she eventually surrendered the weapon.
A 43 year old woman, identified as Paphatsorn, explained to the police that her father had forced her to cook rice every day and had been practicing black magic on her. She added that her father, despite his old age, refused to engage in any religious activities.
The police then inspected the area and discovered the father’s severed left hand in front of the house, with a trail of blood leading to a nearby grocery store. The injured man, 67 year old Sakon, had run to the store seeking help from the villagers. Emergency services were immediately called, and both the severed hand and Sakon were rushed to Udon Thani Central Hospital for treatment.
Paphatsorn further revealed to the police that she had only been living with her father for three days. She expressed remorse for her actions, explaining that her father had a history of abuse towards her during her childhood, including hitting her until she bled and using spiritual practices involving a mystical substance known as Lek Lai on her, which she believes contributed to her current state.
Villagers who witnessed the aftermath recounted seeing Sakon running, covered in blood, with his hand missing. They immediately contacted the police. According to the neighbours, the family, consisting of the father, mother, and daughter, had recently rented the house, reported KhaoSod.
They were unaware of the exact cause of the incident but mentioned that Paphatsorn had a history of mental illness and substance abuse. She was also receiving medication for diabetes and high blood pressure from Udon Thani Hospital.
