Tragic drowning of two Cambodian girls in Rayong province

Two young Cambodian girls drowned after one slipped into a water-filled pit and the other attempted to rescue her in a tragic accident in the province of Rayong.
The event unfolded yesterday, March 25, when Police Lieutenant Colonel Punphat Sritritat from the Pluak Daeng Police Station received a report about the drowning in Mueang Yang Phon subdistrict. The girls, aged seven and 13, drowned in a pit that was about 3 to 5 metres deep.
Upon arrival, emergency response divers coordinated with Pluak Daeng rescue services to assist. The parents and relatives of the victims waited anxiously at the scene.
Divers soon located the bodies at the bottom of the pit, leading to an emotional moment as the parents embraced their children.
An investigation revealed that the two girls, who were friends, were collecting shellfish in the pit alongside two or three other peers. The seven year old slipped into a deep trench within the pit.
Observing her friend’s distress, the 13 year old jumped in to help. Despite efforts from friends on the bank, who used an empty oil can to try to keep them afloat, they were unable to save the girls.

The witnesses then swam back to shore to seek help, witnessing the tragic drowning of their friends, reported KhaoSod.
The bodies of the two girls have been sent to Pluak Daeng Hospital for a thorough autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death. The families will then proceed with funeral rites according to their traditions.
In similar news, a Thai man drowned while searching for shellfish with friends in a canal in Mueang district, Samut Songkhram, on March 14.
Deputy Inspector Chanathip Ongkhleuab of Mueang Samut Songkhram Police Station was alerted to the incident involving Supachip, who had gone missing in Khlong Si Suk.
Due to the canal’s three-metre depth and strong currents, rescue divers from the Sawang Benjatham Foundation were called in to assist. After an extensive search, Supachip’s body was found at the bottom of the canal and retrieved for examination.
