Thai woman arrested for smuggling 8 million meth pills

A 47 year old Thai woman has been arrested for her alleged involvement in a drug trafficking operation smuggling eight million methamphetamine pills across the Mekong River.
Police have gathered substantial evidence, including financial transactions and chat messages, which they believe will solidify the case against her.
Yesterday, April 9, Police Major General Songklot Krirkkritya, commander of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division, directed Police Colonel Sarawut Jantawong, Superintendent of Division 3, along with Deputy Superintendent Kiattibodin Wongngam, to apprehend Sirikanlaya.
The arrest was made in Dong Daeng subdistrict, Chaturaphak Phiman district, Roi Et province. This follows a warrant issued by the Mukdahan Provincial Court on January 15 for conspiracy to traffic category 1 narcotics.
The investigation traces back to late 2024 when the Surasak Montri Task Force and Mukdahan Naval Station were informed about drug smuggling activities in Wan Yai subdistrict, Mukdahan province. Police discovered a suspicious large steel boat crossing the Mekong River and docking at the riverbank. Men were seen unloading sacks from the boat to the shore.
As the officers moved in, the suspects fled under the cover of darkness. Upon inspecting the sacks, the officers found over eight million methamphetamine pills, which were seized as evidence.
The police intensified their investigation, leading to the issuance of multiple arrest warrants for those involved, including Sirikanlaya.
During questioning, Sirikanlaya denied the charges. However, police presented several pieces of evidence, notably Facebook chat messages outlining details of the drug shipment, reported KhaoSod.
Financial records also implicated her in transferring funds as payment for the transportation of the drugs to her associates. She has been handed over to Mueang Mukdahan Police Station for further legal proceedings.
In similar news, a drug trafficking group tried to take advantage of the long holiday to smuggle two million methamphetamine pills from a neighboring country. However, their plan was foiled when they were caught at a checkpoint while attempting to escape.
