Royal Thai Army officer charged for embezzling funds in Chon Buri
The Royal Thai Army (RTA) announced disciplinary action against a military officer at the 14th Military Circle in Chon Buri, following allegations of embezzling bail money from defendants. The officer is facing both criminal charges and potential severe disciplinary measures. Discussions with the victims are scheduled for tomorrow to explore possible assistance.
An internal investigation confirmed the misconduct, leading to the establishment of a committee to examine the facts. The officer in question, serving as a sergeant at the military court, was found to have misappropriated funds from three sources: bail money, fines, and enforcement fees, failing to process these funds according to official regulations.
The Commander of the 14th Military Circle has authorised legal action against the accused, with charges filed on November 15 at Chon Buri City Police Station.
Simultaneously, the officer’s unit is preparing to initiate severe disciplinary procedures based on the investigation’s outcomes. A fact-finding committee has been appointed to assess the officer’s liability for misconduct.
Additionally, the unit has sent a formal notice to the Office of Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission, Region 2, to pursue further legal proceedings, a spokesperson confirmed.
“Tomorrow, November 21, the Commander of the 14th Military Circle will meet with the victims to discuss potential support measures for the incident.”
