Teen girl escapes unwanted advances by boat driver in Ayutthaya
A 14 year old girl was sitting by the waterside with her friend when an unfamiliar boat driver approached, embraced her, and attempted to kiss her. He then insensitively asked, “Shall we go to a hotel? I’ll cover the room costs.”
The incident, which took place today, January 20, at the pier in front of the former district office in Bang Pa-in district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, was shared by the victim on social media. The girl posted photos and a video to warn others of the man’s inappropriate behaviour.
The victim, referred to as A, and her 16 year old friend B, filed a report at the Bang Pa-in police station with Police Lieutenant Vallop Meuangloi, seeking action against the man. A recounted the incident, explaining that while they were sitting by the pier, the boat driver suddenly sat between them, embraced her, and suggested going to a hotel, offering to pay for the accommodation.
He then tried to kiss her, causing her to flee in shock. When she confronted him, he initially denied his actions and became argumentative and threatening.
Fortunately, a nearby angler intervened to mediate, while her friend, suspicious of the man’s actions, secretly recorded the incident on video. Upon being shown the footage, the man apologised.
Subsequently, the helpful angler was reportedly attacked by a group of teenagers, leaving him injured, which heightened A’s fears of potential sexual assault and further violence. In response to the incident, Police Colonel Adirek Pothipan, the superintendent of Bang Pa-in police station, ordered an investigation to locate the suspect, reported KhaoSod.
The police identified the man in the video as 42 year old Somkid. When brought in for questioning, Somkid admitted to the charges while sobbing at the table. He was charged with indecent acts with a child under the age of 15 in public and legal proceedings are underway.
