A 28 year old woman with a history of psychiatric issues held her three year old daughter hostage and attacked her mother in Sisaket’s Mueang district. Emergency services responded promptly, securing the woman and taking her to a hospital for treatment.

Upon arriving at the residence in Ban Chan, Sam subdistrict, police from Mueang Sisaket Provincial Police Station, along with rescue personnel from Sawangjit Sisaket Dhammasathan, found the distressed woman, identified as Wannakarn Landa, resisting attempts to be taken into custody.

Despite her protests, claiming she wanted to stay home with her daughter, police successfully subdued her after approximately 10 minutes of negotiation.

Wannakarn’s mother, 55 year old Phen Landa, recounted that her daughter has been struggling with mental health issues for some time.

Wannakarn had previously worked in Bangkok, where she reportedly spent her earnings on a car, personal items, and methamphetamine, which may have exacerbated her condition.

Although she has undergone several treatments, her mental health remains unstable.

On the day of the incident, Wannakarn unexpectedly attacked her mother from behind while she was eating, raising concerns over potential future violence.

Fearing for both her own and her granddaughter’s safety, Phen decided to notify the police, attributing her daughter’s erratic behaviour to a lapse in psychiatric medication for several months.

Phen expressed willingness to cover any expenses necessary to ensure Wannakarn receives extended treatment until she recovers fully, reported KhaoSod.

Police and rescue teams transported Wannakarn to Sisaket Hospital for further psychiatric care.
