Man gets life sentence for fatal shooting of ex-wife at Bangkok beauty clinic
A 28 year old man, who fatally shot his ex-wife and injured her colleague at their place of work, has been sentenced to life in prison. Danusorn Numcharoen was originally sentenced to death at yesterday’s hearing in Bangkok’s Criminal Court, with the sentence commuted to life imprisonment because he confessed. He must also pay compensation to the victim’s family, set at 521,200 baht, plus 7.5% interest.
The court heard that on February 18, Danusorn entered a beauty clinic on the fourth floor of the Century Movie Plaza shopping mall in Bangkok, where his ex-wife, 28 year old Piyanut Chatthai, was working. He proceeded to shoot her several times in the head, also shooting her colleague, Wilasinee Thipan, in the wrist. He then fled the scene, with police launching a manhunt. Danusorn was arrested the next day in a village near Kaeng Krachan national park, in the central province of Phetchaburi.
He was charged with 7 offences, including premeditated and attempted murder, as well as document forgery, use of forged documents, and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
It’s understood the perpetrator and Piyanut had been together for around 10 years and had a son. Following the shooting, investigating officers said there had been no recent argument between the couple, although they had recently separated.
