A jealous 30 year old Thai man, identified as Karun, fatally stabbed his 45 year old girlfriend Nantharat before driving their vehicle into a pond, and finally, attempting to end his own life. The incident, which took place amidst a sugarcane plantation, was later discovered by local villagers who reported it to the police. The victim and the assailant both hailed from Lopburi province.

Police Senior Sergeant Major Rattanadol Waedkratok of Lopburi‘s Peniad Police Station was notified yesterday about a woman found dead in a submerged pickup truck in a pond located in a sugarcane plantation in Kok Samrong district. Along with Assistant Police Major Phukarawik Chotiksathaen, the Deputy Chief of Lopburi Provincial Police Investigation Division, and volunteer divers from Kok Samrong Rescue Association, he arrived on the scene and discovered the grey Isuzu pickup with registration plate 3 ฒภ 7626 BKK.

The woman, later identified as Nantharat, suffered multiple stab wounds to her chest and torso. A kitchen knife was also found at the scene. The attacker, Karun, was discovered severely injured with his throat slashed, lying in the middle of the plantation. Villagers had spotted him and alerted the rescue team, who took him to the hospital. The pickup truck was subsequently found submerged in a nearby pond.

The deceased’s daughter revealed that her mother had only been dating Karun for about seven to eight months and that he had picked her up from her home the previous day. Assistant Police Major Phukarawik stated that the initial investigation suggested jealousy as the motive behind the attack, with the assailant killing his girlfriend before attempting to end his life. However, unable to withstand the pain of his wounds, he sought help from the villagers.

Pending a full investigation, including interviews and an examination of evidence, Karun is currently in police custody and will be interrogated once his medical condition improves. The deceased’s body has been sent to the hospital for further examination.
