A 31 year old former prisoner was fatally shot at a coin-operated petrol station, with initial suspicions pointing towards a drug-related motive. The incident occurred in Chaiyaphum province yesterday, February 3, at 2.11pm, just months after his release from prison.

Police Colonel Prasit Premkamol from the Mueang Chaiyaphum Police Station received a report about a shooting at a petrol station in Ban Wang Nam Khiao, Moo 5, Tha Hin Ngom subdistrict, Mueang district. He arrived at the scene with a doctor from Chaiyaphum Hospital and a rescue unit from Sawang Khunatham Chaiyaphum.

The man, dressed in a red shirt and grey trousers, was found with gunshot wounds to the left eye socket, head, and torso. The bullets were from a 9mm firearm, and numerous shell casings littered the area. Nearby, a black Honda Wave motorcycle without a license plate was parked.

The victim’s uncle recounted that earlier in the day, a friend of the man visited their home three times, searching for him. The friend had facial tattoos, which seemed to suggest connections to local drug dealers. However, the uncle was unaware of his nephew’s involvement with drugs.

The police colonel stated that preliminary information indicated the man had been released from prison only a few months before his death. The investigation team has been tasked with gathering evidence, including CCTV footage from the vicinity, and conducting thorough interviews, reported KhaoSod.

Coordination with the forensic unit is underway to examine the crime scene, and efforts are focused on identifying and apprehending the suspect, who is reportedly known to the police.
