The Department of Corrections in Thailand recently recaptured an 37 year old escaped prisoner, who had fled from the surgical ward of Bang Lamung Hospital. He was discovered today at approximately 7am, hiding on the rooftop of a one-storey psychiatry ward building, a mere 20 metres from the surgical ward he had escaped from.

Thanaphat Mayod, who was serving a sentence at Pattaya Remand Prison for a theft conviction, had been admitted to the hospital on December 6 as he was suffering from a serious infection caused by penis enlargement injections. He underwent surgery and was recovering in a room on the seventh floor of the surgical ward, reported Bangkok Post.

In the early hours of yesterday, around 2am, Thanaphat managed to sever the chains around his ankles using a pair of pliers and escaped from his room. His absence instigated an immediate search by the prison officials.

Despite making efforts to search the area surrounding the hospital yesterday, they were unsuccessful in locating Thanaphat. However, the officials were convinced that he could not have gone far due to a urine tube still being inserted into his penis. Their search then extended to all buildings within the hospital compound.
