Sriracha monk mobbed after anointing hands of lottery winner factory worker
A monk in Sriracha, Thailand was mobbed after anointing the hands of a lottery winner factory worker.
The monk, Phra Maha Thanongsak, performed the anointment of the hands and wallet of a factory worker who then won the lottery 10 days later.
The winning amount was six million baht, prompting the monk to become the most popular member of the clergy. Swarms of the factory worker’s cohorts came to the monk to be blessed, with the hopes of gaining the same outcome.
Borwin factory workers were seen queuing up out the door of the God of Wealth Hall at Wat Rangsi Sutthawat in Surasak subdistrict to be anointed by the monk of his assistant, Luang Po Tom.
According to the Pattaya Mail, Phra Maha Thanongsak has a large following of Malaysian and Singaporean Buddhists and is famous for anointing hands, bank notes, wallets and cellphone cases over the past five years.
Meanwhile, an elderly Thai lady says she will continue her career selling fried chive cakes at the market despite winning 12 million baht in the government lottery eight days ago.
Phuangphet Pelacheun, 72, from the northern province of Uttaradit forgot to check the lottery results.
When her colleagues started talking about the winning numbers, Grandma Phuangphet leapt up, screamed and started dancing around Khun Nai Market in Mueang district, realising she won the lottery’s first prize.
Grandma Phuangphet bought two tickets with the number 590417, winning 12 million baht (US$347,217).
Grandma revealed that she experienced “itchy hands” which she took as a sign to enter the lottery, so she bought two tickets from a local lottery ticket vendor in the market.
She said she chose the tickets ending with the number 17 because it is her grandson’s 25th birthday on February 17, which is today. She said she has raised him ever since he was a child.
In other lottery news, someone who bought 17 winning digital lottery tickets has won 42 million baht (US$1.21 million).
