Hungarian foreign minister tests positive for Covid-19 while in Bangkok

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijarto tested positive for Covid-19 while on a visit to Bangkok. He arrived in Thailand yesterday and was expected to fly back to Hungary today.

Reuters says he has no symptoms while Coconuts Bangkok reports the foreign minister was admitted to the hospital this morning with flu symptoms and later tested positive for Covid-19. The Hungarian FM was apparently tested for the virus 3 times before flying to Thailand.

The foreign minister cancelled his events following his positive test and is currently isolated pending more tests. Peter visit to Bangkok was intended to strengthen economic ties between Thailand and Hungary. He was scheduled to meet with PM Prayut Chan-o-cha as well as Foreign Affairs Minister Don Pramudwinai, but the meetings were cancelled.
