Phuket your plans: Steer clear of roadwork zones at night

Motorists are being urged to steer clear of Thepkrasattri Road, Dibuk Road, and Phuket Road in Phuket Town during nighttime due to ongoing construction work aimed at installing power cables underground.

Phuket Town Mayor Saroj Angkhanapilas announced that this project, which started on November 14 last year and is set to conclude by November 7 this year, aims to enhance convenience and safety for both residents and tourists, bolstering Phuket’s status as a premier tourist destination. However, the construction is expected to temporarily disrupt traffic in key areas.

The latest phase of the project started on Sunday, August 11, and is projected to wrap up by Saturday, August 17. High-voltage cable manholes are being installed along Phuket Road, in front of the Accounting Office and the U-turn near the Wanchai shop, as well as on Thepkrasattri Road, in front of Roland Furniture, opposite Soi Jai Uthit.

The construction work will take place nightly from 9pm to 5am, necessitating the closure of one traffic lane in these areas, said Mayor Saroj.

“Phuket City Municipality has urged the public to avoid these routes during the construction period and to refrain from parking along the road shoulders in the work zones.”

Motorists are encouraged to drive cautiously, and those affected by the construction can report any issues by calling 085-6058725 or 083-2498729. Upon completion of the underground cable conduits and the installation of the cables, Phuket City Municipality will proceed with improving the road surface, reported Phuket News.
