Homes wrecked, power poles downed in Thalang storm chaos
Emergency crews race to restore power and clear roads as more storms loom this week

Fierce winds and torrential rain turned northern Phuket into a storm zone, leaving a trail of destruction across Thalang district.
The Thalang District Office confirmed extensive damage throughout the area, with multiple subdistricts hit hard as the tropical squall ripped through homes, felled trees, and toppled power poles.
In Pa Khlok, nine houses near Soi Na Yao in Village 8 bore the brunt of the storm, while fallen electric poles at the entrance to Pa Khlok Kindergarten created further hazards on Sunday, July 20.
More homes were damaged in Village 6, close to the road leading to Ao Po Pier — a popular launch point for tourists heading to nearby islands.
Srisoonthorn wasn’t spared either, with around 18 homes in Village 4 sustaining damage. In Village 1 of neighbouring Cherng Talay, a house was hit by falling trees.
A dramatic incident also unfolded in Srisoonthorn when a massive advertising billboard collapsed onto a house along Thepkrasattri Road. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Elsewhere, trees were spotted precariously dangling over power lines in Soi Cherng Talay 3, while property damage was also reported in Soi Cherng Talay 16/5.
In Mai Khao, massive trees brought traffic to a standstill at Sai Kaew Beach and near Ban Pu Ma in Village 5.
To make matters worse, officials say another 12 homes across the district were damaged, with teams currently inspecting the affected properties to determine the level of support needed.
Local authorities are working to evaluate the full scale of the damage and coordinate urgent relief for residents. Emergency crews have been deployed to clear roads, restore electricity, and ensure public safety in high-risk areas, reported The Phuket News.
While no fatalities or injuries have been reported so far, the incident has sparked renewed calls for improved storm readiness and stronger infrastructure in vulnerable coastal zones.
With more wild weather forecast for the week ahead, residents are being urged to remain on alert and report any hazardous conditions to local officials immediately.
