German tourist arrested in Phuket for assault and theft spree

A 20 year old German tourist has been apprehended in Phuket, accused of assaulting a Thai man to steal his motorcycle and subsequently stealing a mobile phone from a department store, as confirmed by local police.
Ryan Leo Akam was detained by officers from Chalong Police Station following two incidents that were reported on April 4.
The first incident took place at around 5.35pm in front of a 7-Eleven store located at the entrance of Soi Songkhun in Chalong.
A store employee reported that the suspect attacked a Thai man and fled with his white Honda Click 110i motorcycle, registration number 1 กล 5867 Phuket. Akam was reportedly seen riding along Chao Fa West Road towards Chalong Circle.
Shortly thereafter, police received another report of a theft at a mobile phone shop inside the Robinson Lifestyle shopping mall in Chalong.
An iPhone 16 Pro Max in Desert Titanium colour, with IMEI number 35 355824 968812 8, was reported stolen. Surveillance footage and witness statements confirmed the suspect’s involvement in both incidents.

Police tracked Akam using CCTV footage, which captured him entering an alley in Moo 1, Chalong, known for trading second-hand goods. He was later apprehended and brought in for questioning.
Akam has been transferred to investigators for further legal proceedings. While the specific charges have yet to be confirmed, police have stated that the investigation is ongoing, reported The Phuket News.
In similar news, a foreign man is still on the run after stealing an iPhone valued at nearly 60,000 baht from a mobile phone shop near Chalong Intersection in Phuket.
The theft took place on February 5, and a local Thai man took to social media to help track down the thief. He posted CCTV footage of the incident and provided details about the stolen phone, hoping to prevent the thief from selling it.
