Pattaya technician blasted off pole in fiery high-voltage horror

A Pattaya technician was left fighting for his life after being blasted by a high-voltage electric shock and falling from a utility pole in a fiery workplace disaster.
The shocking incident occurred at 7.36pm yesterday, April 7, along Phra Tamnak Road near Soi 2 in Pattaya City. The Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit’s radio centre received an urgent distress call, prompting a swift response from rescue volunteers and Pattaya City Special Affairs officers.
When emergency crews arrived, they found a man, believed to be between 30 and 40 years old, sprawled on the ground in agony. He had sustained severe burns, with visible wounds and torn clothing, moaning in pain and begging for help.
Rescue personnel quickly administered first aid before transporting him to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Flames were spotted atop the utility pole where the technician had been working. Firefighters were deployed with a water truck to douse the blaze, while police cordoned off the area and temporarily closed traffic to ensure public safety.
The man was reportedly repairing communication lines when the horror unfolded. According to his friend, 29 year old Thanongsak Si Phiakaew, he had been invited along to assist with the job.
“He climbed the ladder to reach the top of the pole,” Thanongsak said. “I didn’t see exactly what happened, but there was a loud explosion and sparks. He fell straight to the ground.”
Startled and panicked, Thanongsak immediately called for emergency help as the flames erupted above.
Police suspect the technician came into contact with high-voltage wiring, triggering a powerful electric shock followed by an explosion. However, the exact cause is still under investigation. Officials are working to determine whether safety protocols were followed and whether the area had been properly cleared for such work, reported The Pattaya News.
This incident raises serious concerns about workplace safety standards for electrical maintenance crews in Thailand, especially those working near live wires in public areas.
As investigations continue, the technician remains hospitalised with life-threatening injuries. His identity has not yet been released pending confirmation and family notification. Police are expected to release more information following a formal inquiry.
