Tragic accident: Man drowns as truck slides into Thai pond
A tragic incident unfolded last night when a man, who had been resting in his truck by a pond, was found dead after the vehicle rolled into the water. The victim, who had been guarding machinery inside the truck, struggled to escape but could not survive.
At around 10pm, yesterday, December 2, emergency rescue teams from Ruenchit Volunteers, located in the Khong district of Nakhon Ratchasima, were dispatched to search for a vehicle that had plunged into a private pond in the Nong Bong area of Mueang Khong.
The vehicle, a four-door Isuzu pickup truck, was reportedly occupied by a single male worker who had been resting in the truck while on duty.
Rescue teams conducted an underwater search for approximately 15 minutes before discovering the victim’s body submerged near the truck.
The back door of the vehicle was found open, indicating that the man had attempted to escape but was unsuccessful in his struggle for survival.
Before the vehicle sank, the victim managed to make a phone call to his family, alerting them to the incident and requesting help. Unfortunately, by the time his relatives arrived, the truck had already fully submerged.
Police believe that the victim had parked the truck near the pond to rest. The area was reportedly sloped, and the cool, damp conditions caused the grass to become slippery, leading the truck to gradually slide into the water unnoticed by the man.
Local police have instructed rescue teams to send the body for an autopsy at the Khong Hospital. They are also coordinating with a tow truck service to retrieve the submerged vehicle for further investigation into the cause of the incident, reported KhaoSod.
Police are working with forensic teams to conduct a thorough investigation of the scene to determine the exact circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking accident.
