Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is set to enhance relations with China, particularly focusing on long-term investment partnerships, during her four-day official visit starting today, according to Government spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub.

The government intends to bolster long-term investment collaborations in key areas pivotal to the transition towards a greener and more digital society. This includes promoting the electric vehicle and semiconductor industries and the development of data centres, as outlined by the Thai premier during yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.

The 38 year old prime minister emphasised the importance of ministries and agencies in ensuring the safety of foreign tourists and developing measures to combat transnational crime syndicates, particularly call-centre gangs using Thailand as a transit hub, according to Jirayu.

PM Paetongtarn directed relevant agencies to support cultural and soft power exchanges between Thailand and China. Preparations are underway for the arrival of another pair of giant pandas on loan from China, marking the 50th anniversary of Sino-Thai relations this year.

Yesterday, the Thai PM expressed optimism about her visit to China from today, February 5 to February 8.

“I am very excited. It is expected to be a good trip.”

During her visit, she will meet President Xi Jinping to discuss various issues and will then travel north to attend the 9th Asian Winter Games Opening Ceremony in Harbin, Heilongjiang province, at the invitation of Prime Minister Li Qiang.

PM Paetongtarn will also engage in discussions with Chinese and Thai business leaders to reinforce the business partnership between the two nations.

Her visit signifies the start of the Golden Jubilee year for Thailand-China Friendship as the two countries celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, reported Bangkok Post.

This visit also reaffirms Thailand’s commitment to advancing shared goals, such as promoting safety and well-being, as well as preparing for the future, while deepening mutual understanding between the people of both countries, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
