Thai man arrested for sister-in-law’s murder in Pathum Thani
Police arrested a Thai man for the murder of his sister-in-law, who served as a sub-district secretary in Pathum Thani province near Bangkok. The victim allegedly attempted to obstruct his relationship with her younger sister.
The body of 57 year old Worrakanok Thepphimon, deputy secretary of the Khlong Sam Sub-district Office, was discovered on Saturday, November 9, by her sister, 51 year old Bongkot Kaewklom, in the victim’s home.
Worrakanok had multiple stab wounds and a deep cut to her neck. Police suspected a family conflict as the motive, given that the suspect left all of Worrakanok’s valuables untouched.
Bongkot and her husband, 43 year old Pratin, became the main suspects. They were summoned for questioning, during which Pratin reportedly behaved suspiciously. Five knives were confiscated from him for DNA testing to determine if any traces of the victim’s blood were present.
Based on the evidence gathered, police issued an arrest warrant for Pratin, who was detained yesterday, November 11. He continued to deny the allegations and refused to speak with the media.
Channel 7 reported that Pratin worked at the sub-district office, where his sister-in-law, Worrakanok, was one of his superiors. Pratin later entered into a relationship with Bongkot, which Worrakanok reportedly disapproved of.
Worrakanok is said to have disapproved of Pratin and wanted her sister to end the relationship. She even offered to pay Bongkot’s rent and provide her with land if she agreed to separate from Pratin.
According to media reports, Pratin may have known of his sister-in-law’s attempts to end the relationship, potentially sparking his anger and leading to the murder.
Channel 8 offered a different theory, suggesting that Bongkot and Pratin hoped to inherit the family assets and valuables. Their mother allegedly favoured Worrakanok over Bongkot, leading Pratin to murder her to secure the inheritance.
Police have not yet confirmed the true motive, and Pratin remains in custody under questioning at Khlong Luang Police Station.
ORIGINAL STORY: Thai woman and boyfriend suspected in murder of Pathum Thani official
Police suspect a Thai woman and her boyfriend in the murder of the woman’s older sister, who was a sub-district secretary in the central province of Pathum Thani.
The 57 year old deputy secretary of the Khlong Sam Sub-district Office, Worrakanok Thepphimon, was found dead in her home on Saturday, November 9. She had a deep cut wound to her neck and more than 10 stab wounds across her body.
Her legs and arms were tied with a towel and a white tank top. Officers found hair left at the scene and conducted DNA tests on it to identify the suspects involved.
The first person to find Worrakanok’s body was her younger sister, 51 year old Bongkot Kaewklom. Bongkot told police that she heard her sister scream twice, so she rushed to check on her. Unfortunately, her sister died before her arrival.
Worrakanok’s son insisted that the shirt found at the scene did not belong to his mother. He added that his mother was a good person and had never engaged in conflict with anyone. He suspected certain family members of the murder but did not have evidence and expressed his fear of speaking out.
Officers at Khlong Luang Police Station investigated the house but found no traces of a struggle or theft. Worrakanok’s gold Buddhist amulet, mobile phone, and other valuables were left untouched.
Police also suspect Worrakanok’s family members of the murder, as the suspects seemed to know her work schedule well and were able to enter her home easily without forcing entry.
More than 10 people were questioned, and the most suspicious individuals were identified as Bongkot and her boyfriend, whose name remains undisclosed. The two reportedly denied the accusation but gave confused and suspicious answers to the police.
Officers searched the couple’s home and seized five knives belonging to the man for further investigation. The test results are expected to be released today, November 11.
The motive for the murder remains unsolved, but police believe it may be related to an internal family conflict. Officers promised to resolve the case as soon as possible.
