Thai couple’s 1,000km, 20 hours Songkran motorcycle odyssey
A Thai couple travelled 20 hours on a motorbike and over 1,000 kilometres from Bangkok to their hometown in Pattani province in the south of Thailand before Songkran because all train tickets were fully booked and flights were too pricey for them.
The woman, Nurfatihah, posted a video of the epic motorcycle journey she took to Pattani with her boyfriend Sufianin, in April on her TikTok account. Watch the video here.
The caption said…
“Bangkok – Pattani. One motorcycle and two of us. Started travelling at 9pm. It’s urgent, and all train tickets were fully booked. The flights are too expensive. So, we decided to travel on a motorbike. We were worried along the way as we didn’t know what to expect. We finally arrived home safely.”
The video shows the couple riding along the road, passing many provinces, and stopping to rest for a short time at a petrol station and coffee shop. Even though it was a very long and difficult trip, the couple seemed to be happy.
Many netizens praised their endeavours, saying they were very patient. Others added they wanted to try a similar road journey.
The woman revealed to people in the comments that they spent 850 baht on the fuel, while a flight could cost the pair a total of 4,000 to 5,000 baht. She also added that the motorcycle she used was a Honda Wave125i scooter, not a touring motorcycle.
In Thailand, people always look forward to the Songkran festival and the long holiday in April. Those who leave their hometown and families to work in Bangkok generally return home for the holidays. As a result, all public transportation is congested, and flight prices are higher than usual.
