Two teenagers were apprehended by Sai Mai police after behaving suspiciously while passing officers on a motorcycle. They were found in possession of two firearms, claiming self-defence against potential attackers.

Yesterday, November 20, at approximately 10.40pm, police officials, including Deputy Superintendent Sanchai Kirirat and led by Captain Nukun Kingklao, conducted routine patrols in the Sai Mai area of Bangkok.

During their patrol, they encountered a motorcycle at the intersection of Phahonyothin Soi 54/1, with two young teenage boys on board who appeared visibly nervous upon seeing the police.

The officers, noticing the suspicious behaviour, decided to follow and eventually stopped the motorcycle. Upon inspection, they discovered that the driver, identified as 15 year old A, was carrying a pen gun of calibre .22 with one bullet concealed in his trouser pocket. The passenger, 16 year old B, was found with a homemade short-barrelled gun of calibre .38 and two bullets, also hidden in his pocket, said a police spokesperson.

The duo was charged with illegal possession of firearms and ammunition without a permit and carrying firearms in a public place without urgent necessity.

The arrest took place inside Phahonyothin Soi 54/1, with the specific location being separate 8, Sai Mai district, Bangkok. The law enforcement team, including Sergeant Surasak Sukdee and Corporal Thinnakorn Phonyiam, searched and discovered the weapons.

The juveniles explained their actions, citing fears of an ambush by adversaries. A, currently studying in a non-formal education programme, and B, attending a vocational college in the Min Buri area, expressed their need for protection as the reason for carrying the firearms, reported KhaoSod.

Following their confession, the police proceeded with the arrest, informed them of the charges, and transferred the case to the Sai Mai Investigation Division for further legal proceedings.
