Teen caught with two million meth pills on Mekong River
A 16 year old was apprehended while smuggling meth pills across the Mekong River, with over two million pills seized. Three of his accomplices managed to escape.
The incident took place earlier today, February 3, in Chumphon subdistrict, Phon Phisai district, Nong Khai province.
Lieutenant General Boonsin Phadklang, head of the Second Army Area and the Border Drug Suppression and Interdiction Command spearheaded the arrest.
The operation was part of the government’s Seal Stop Safe initiative, targeting drug trafficking and illegal activities along the northeastern border.
The Second Army Area, which borders neighbouring countries, was tasked with enhancing patrol frequencies and setting up checkpoints in collaboration with police, local officials, and residents.
At 3am today, the Surasak Montri Task Force, led by the 2104th Task Force Ranger Company, seized six sacks containing approximately 2.4 million methamphetamine pills. The operation was initiated following intelligence reports of smuggling activities from a neighbouring country into Thailand.
Officers focused their efforts along the Mekong River in Ban Woen, Mueang 3, Chumphon subdistrict, Phon Phisai district. They observed a boat docking on the Thai side of the river, accompanied by a car that was parked nearby.
Four men exited the vehicle and carried three black sacks from the riverbank. Upon the officers’ approach, the group attempted to flee, but the officers managed to apprehend one individual, a 16 year old teenager.
A search of the area revealed an overturned boat used for smuggling, along with three additional sacks floating in the river. Coordination with the Phon Phisai Naval Unit led to their retrieval. Collaborative efforts with Phon Phisai Police Station, local administrative officers, and the border monitoring unit, resulted in the confiscation of the drugs and the boat.
The seized items, including six sacks of meth pills and a motorised steel boat, were secured by the 2104th Task Force Ranger Company. The evidence and the arrested individual have been handed over to the Phon Phisai Police Station for legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.
