A rescue centre has been established by the Phang Daeng Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO) in Mukdahan to assist in the search for a man who fell into a stream while fishing two days ago and remains missing. The incident occurred amid heavy rainfall, which caused slippery conditions.

Piyapong Somkot, the district chief of Dong Luang, along with Jitkram Chueakhoth, the Mayor of Phaeng Daeng SAO, and Nissorn Songsangrit, the secretary of Phaeng Daeng SAO, coordinated efforts with rescue personnel and locals to set up the centre yesterday, August 19.

This followed reports from villagers that a local man, identified as 57 year old Win, had fallen into the water at Huai Bang Sai in Village 1, Phaeng Daeng, Dong Luang district, Mukdahan province.

According to the villagers, Win, a resident of Phaeng Daeng, was out fishing with his grandson when he slipped and fell into the stream due to the heavy rain. The grandson ran back to the village to seek help.

“We have been searching since yesterday evening but the continuous rain has made the search difficult.”

Despite the immediate response, including mobilising rescue teams and villagers to search for Win, efforts have so far been unsuccessful. The search operation is now entering its second day.

Witnesses reported that Win and his grandson had gone fishing at around midday two days ago. The slippery ground caused by the rain led to Win’s unfortunate fall into the stream. The grandson sprinted back to the village to alert others, prompting a swift response from local officials and residents.

The Phaeng Daeng SAO decided to establish the rescue centre to better coordinate the search efforts. Volunteers, locals, and rescue workers have been working tirelessly despite the adverse weather conditions.

The situation has rallied the community, with many locals offering their time and resources to aid in the search. However, the continuous rainfall has hampered visibility and made the terrain treacherous, complicating the search efforts, reported KhaoSod.
