Pain in the neck: American kicks off outside Chiang Mai shop

An American man with a serious neck injury yesterday refused medical treatment and caused a public disturbance outside a convenience store in Chiang Mai province.
A witness recorded a video of the foreign man yesterday, April 22, causing a fracas and shared it with the local news Facebook page, Guru Guroo Chiang Mai. The footage, filmed from inside the witness’s car, did not capture what the man was shouting.
In the video, the man is seen shirtless, wearing red trousers, with gauze covering his neck wound. He was reportedly speaking with officers from Bhubing Rajanives Police Station outside the convenience store in Mueang district.
According to the Facebook page, the man is an American national. He visited a private hospital near the convenience store with a serious neck wound. The medical team administered first aid and advised further treatment, but he refused.
The American then fled the hospital and began speaking incoherently outside the store. Concerned locals feared the situation might escalate and contacted the police. However, officers were unable to communicate with him, as he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or another intoxicating substance.

Police attempted to question him about the cause of his injury but he did not respond. Officers eventually managed to calm him and escorted him back to his hotel in the Chang Phueak sub-district of Chiang Mai.
Police informed the hotel staff and management of the man’s concerning behaviour and urged them to monitor him closely for the safety of other guests and residents. No legal action was taken against him.

Social media users expressed concern in the comments, stating that the man should have been temporarily detained rather than returned to his hotel in such a condition. Fortunately, no further disturbances or violent acts were reported.

In a separate incident earlier this month, another American man alarmed locals in Pattaya after he was found stabbing himself and reading books about death on a busy traffic island.
Due to significant blood loss, he lost consciousness, allowing emergency responders and police to intervene and rush him to a hospital. The motive behind his actions was not disclosed to the public.
