Man struck by lightning in Sakon Nakhon while tending cattle
Locals shaken as rare lightning strike turns routine day into tragedy

A tragic incident occurred when a 54 year old Thai man was struck by lightning while tending to his cattle near a coconut grove in Nadi village, Nahua Bo subdistrict, Phanna Nikhom district, Sakon Nakhon province. The incident, which took place on May 7, was reported to the police and local rescue teams.
Upon arrival at the scene, rescue teams found that the victim’s relatives had already moved his body to a safe location. According to family members, the weather was dark and oppressively hot with constant thunder when the incident occurred.

The victim, Pek, was on his way to retrieve cattle tied in an open field. As he passed a coconut tree, lightning struck the tree, and Pek was caught in the electrical discharge while nearby, reported KhaoSod.
Police have transported the body to Phanna Nikhom Hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. After the examination, the family will proceed with funeral arrangements in accordance with their religious traditions.
In similar news, lightning struck during a rocket festival at Wat Rattanettaram in Prachinburi’s Nadi district on May 5, injuring two women and triggering a swift response from emergency services amid heavy rain and strong winds.
According to the Sajja Buddha Dharma Foundation’s public relations department in Kabin Buri, the lightning strike was reported around 4.50pm on May 4. One of the injured individuals was transported to Nadi Hospital for treatment.
The first victim, Orapin Seesongcram, sustained only minor injuries and was able to return home shortly after. The second woman, 35 year old Orawan, suffered more serious injuries to both shoulders.
At around 2am, Orawan had been standing beside the stage during the storm, with her young son asleep in a cradle nearby, when the lightning struck. The impact caused her to lose consciousness and suffer shoulder injuries.
