Heavy rainfall over the past four days in Mae Sot, Tak province has caused the Moei River to overflow, rising 1.2 metres above its banks and flooding multiple villages. Emergency services are working around the clock to assist affected residents.

Continuous downpours in Mae Sot have led to significant flooding, impacting several communities. The Tha Sai Luat Subdistrict Municipality reported that the Moei River’s water level, measured under the first Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, has surpassed the riverbank by 1.2 metres. As a result, the water has inundated nearby areas, including the car park adjacent to the state property building and the Rim Moei market area under the bridge.

Residents are facing severe disruptions as floodwaters have started to encroach on their homes and businesses. Emergency response teams from the Tha Sai Luat Subdistrict Municipality, the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office (DDPM) in Mae Sot, and the local volunteer defence corps have been mobilised to assist residents in evacuating to higher ground. Efforts began on the evening of yesterday, July 25, and continued into today as authorities work tirelessly to safeguard the community.

In addition to the immediate response, officials have been distributing sandbags to residents in the most affected areas, particularly in Moo 1, Ban Mae Pa Nuea, and Mae Pa subdistrict. These measures aim to prevent further water intrusion into homes. Despite the ongoing rain, which varies in intensity, the efforts are focused on providing relief and protection to those most vulnerable.

Nutthapimol Pakama, the chairperson of the Mae Pa Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, coordinated the distribution of sandbags to help residents reinforce their homes against the relentless water flow. She confirmed that while the rain continues, it has not yet reached the levels of the past four days.

The incessant rainfall has not only affected Mae Sot but is also a concern for other nearby regions. The DDPM and local authorities are prepared to extend their support to additional areas if the need arises. The current focus, however, remains on managing the immediate crisis in Mae Sot and ensuring that residents receive the help they need, reported KhaoSod.
