Jealous Thai teen confesses to fatal abuse of 4 year old adopted brother

Police arrested an 18 year old Thai teen in the central province of Prachin Buri for the fatal abuse of a four year old boy, whom his father had adopted. The suspect reportedly admitted to harming the child out of jealousy.

The 52 year old man, Rattana Saengsuwimon, reported the death of his adopted son, Kao, to officers at Rabopai Police Station on Monday, April 21. The child was found lifeless in a small wooden hut near Rattana’s home, bearing multiple wounds and bruises.

Rattana denied abusing the boy and claimed not to know what caused his death. A drug test conducted on Rattana returned a positive result, leading police to suspect him. Following intense questioning, Rattana became distressed and exhausted, requiring hospitalisation.

Police also considered other potential suspects, including five other family members living in the same house, as well as Kao’s biological mother and her boyfriend.

Kao’s mother, 22 year old Prapapin, told officers she last saw her son before the Songkran festival and noticed no signs of abuse. She also defended her boyfriend, stating he had never harmed her son.

Prapapin said she returned Kao to his adoptive family on April 3. Although the boy did not express any complaints verbally, she noted he appeared sad and reluctant to go back.

Rattana’s younger sister, 33 year old Rungtiwa, told police she had noticed bruises and injuries on Kao and asked him about them. Kao reportedly replied…

“I got beaten up. I can’t tell you who did it. He would kill me if I told anyone.”

Rungtiwa added that the boy later complained of stomach pain, prompting her to give him a painkiller.

Eventually, Rattana’s biological son, 18 year old Ing, confessed to fatally abusing Kao. Ing stated that he came forward because he could no longer bear seeing his father suffer under police suspicion and feared his father might be imprisoned.

Ing said he resented the young boy, believing his father gave him more attention and affection. He claimed that his father never showed him care or spoke to him kindly, like he did to Kao. Driven by envy, Ing beat Kao and pressed lit cigarettes onto his body.

The confession led Ing to be charged with physically assaulting another person, resulting in death. The penalty is three to five years in prison, but Ing’s punishment may be different due to the legal provisions for minors.
