Heavy rains and high waves forecast in 39 provinces

Thailand’s Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a warning of heavy rains in 39 provinces, including Bangkok and its vicinity, due to the southwest monsoon. Anglers are advised to exercise caution as high waves are expected in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

TMD predicts weather conditions for the next 24 hours, with the southwest monsoon covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Additionally, a low-pressure area hovers over the upper coast of Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin.

This weather pattern is likely to cause thunderstorms in some parts of Thailand, with heavy rains expected in the eastern and western southern regions. Residents in these areas are urged to be cautious of the dangers posed by heavy rainfall and accumulated water.

In the upper Andaman Sea, waves are expected to be 1 to 2 metres high, with areas experiencing thunderstorms seeing waves above 2 metres. Fishermen are advised to navigate carefully and avoid areas with thunderstorms.

In the north, thunderstorms are expected in 40% of the areas, mostly in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Tak, and Phetchabun provinces. The minimum temperature will range from 24 to 26 degrees Celcius, with a maximum of 34 to 37°C. The southwest wind will blow at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

In the northeast, 30% of the areas will experience thunderstorms, particularly in Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Chaiyaphum, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces. The minimum temperature will be between 24 and 28°C, and the maximum will range from 34 to 39°C. The southwesterly wind will blow at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

The central region will also have thunderstorms in 40% of the areas, mostly in Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi provinces. The minimum temperature will be 23 to 27°C, and the maximum temperature will range from 37 to 38°C. The southwesterly wind will blow at 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

In the east, thunderstorms are expected in 40% of the areas, with some regions experiencing heavy rain, particularly in Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces. The minimum temperature will range from 25 to 28°C, and the maximum will be between 33 to 38°C. The southwesterly wind will blow at 15 to 30 kilometres per hour. The sea will have waves about 1 metre high, with areas experiencing thunderstorms seeing waves above 1 metre.

The east coast of the south will have thunderstorms in 40% of the areas, mostly in Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat provinces. The minimum temperature will range from 24 to 28°C, and the maximum will be between 35 and 38°C. The southwest wind will blow at 15 to 30 kilometres per hour. The sea will have waves about 1 metre high, with areas experiencing thunderstorms seeing waves above 1 metre.

The west coast of the south will experience thunderstorms in 60% of the areas, with some regions experiencing heavy rain, particularly in Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, and Trang provinces. The minimum temperature will range from 24 to 27°C, and the maximum will be between 32 and 35°C.

From Phuket upwards, the southwesterly wind will blow at 15 to 35 kilometres per hour, with waves expected to be 1 to 2 metres high and over 2 metres in thunderstorm areas. From Krabi downwards, the northwesterly wind will blow at 15 to 30 kilometres per hour, with waves about 1 metre high and above 1 metre in thunderstorm areas.
