Heavy rain warning issued for 45 provinces across Thailand
Meteorological department warns of potential flash floods and accumulated rainfall

The Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather warning for today, September 22, forecasting heavy rain across Thailand, particularly affecting 45 provinces, including Bangkok. Residents are advised to be cautious of potential dangers from heavy rain and accumulated rainfall due to the intensified monsoon conditions.
Typhoon Ragasa, currently east of the Philippines, is expected to move into the South China Sea today. It is anticipated to reach the Gulf of Tonkin and northern Vietnam by September 25 to 26, before the storm is expected to lose its strength gradually, impacting Thailand’s monsoon systems during this period.
From 6am today to 6am tomorrow, the northern region is expected to experience thunderstorms over 70% of the area, with heavy rain in some parts, notably in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Lampang, Lamphun, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phitsanulok, Phichit, and Phetchabun provinces. Temperatures will range from 24 to 25 degrees Celsius (°C) to 30 to 33°C, with variable winds at 5 to 15 kilometres per hour (km/h).
The northeastern region will also see thunderstorms over 70% of the area, with heavy rainfall in Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces. Temperatures are expected to range from 24 to 26°C to 30 to 34°C, with variable winds at 10 to 15 km/h.
Central Thailand will have thunderstorms across 60% of the area, with heavy rain expected in Nakhon Sawan, Lop Buri, Saraburi, and Kanchanaburi. Temperatures will be between 25 to 27°C and 33 to 34°C, with variable winds at 10 to 15 km/h.
In the eastern region, thunderstorms will affect 60% of the area, with heavy rain in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat. The temperature range is forecasted to be 24 to 28°C to 31 to 34°C, with southwesterly winds at 15 to 35 km/h. The sea will have waves of 1 to 2 metres, rising above 2 metres during thunderstorms.
Rain possible
Southern Thailand’s eastern coast will experience thunderstorms in 10% of the area, mainly in Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, and Narathiwat, with temperatures ranging from 22 to 26°C to 33 to 35°C. Southwesterly winds will reach 15 to 35 km/h, with sea waves at approximately 1 metre, rising to 1 to 2 metres offshore, and over 2 metres in stormy areas.
On the western coast, 20% of the area will see thunderstorms, primarily in Ranong and Phang Nga provinces. Temperatures will range between 23 °C and 25 °C, and 32 °C to 34 °C. From Phang Nga northward, southwesterly winds will blow at 20 to 35 km/h, with sea waves around 2 metres. From Phuket southward, winds will be at 15 to 35 km/h, with waves of 1 to 2 metres, exceeding 2 metres in stormy areas.
Bangkok and its vicinity are forecasted to have thunderstorms over 60% of the area, with temperatures between 25 to 27°C and 32 to 35°C. Southwesterly winds will be at 10 to 15 km/h. The public is urged to stay alert to the potential for heavy rainfall and strengthening monsoon conditions.
