Bangkok’s air quality dips: PM2.5 dust levels spark health warnings
Bangkok and its surrounding provinces are experiencing PM2.5 dust levels above the standard, leading to health concerns and advisories for the public to cease outdoor activities.
The Air Pollution Problem Resolution Centre under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE) unveiled these findings after monitoring air quality. While the PM2.5 dust level remained within standard limits across the country, it exceeded the standard in Bangkok, Samut Sakhon, and Samut Prakan.
The monitoring stations of the Pollution Control Department (PCD) in conjunction with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) measured dust levels between 19 and 56 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3), exceeding the standard limit of 35.7 µg/m3 in 23 areas.
These areas include Hirunrujee in Thonburi, Kanchanapisek Road in Bang Khun Thian, Din Daeng Road in Din Daeng, Charansanitwong Road in Bang Phlat, Rama II Road in Bang Khun Thian, Thonburi Rom Park in Thung Khru, Taweewattana Park in Taweewattana, and Ladprao Road Soi Ladprao 95 in Wang Thonglang.
Additional affected areas include Rama IV Road in front of Samyan Mitrtown in Pathum Wan, Narathiwat Road in Bang Rak, Ratchadapisek-Tha Phra Road in Thonburi, Charoen Nakhon Road in Khlong San, Tha Phra Intersection in Bangkok Yai, Soi Nikhom Ban Phak Railway Thonburi 5 in Bangkok Noi, Phutthamonthon 1 Road in Taling Chan, Klong Thawi Watthana Road in Taweewattana, Petchkasem Road in Phasi Charoen, Maha Chai Road in Petchkasem 81 in Nong Khaem, Ekachai Road in Bang Bon, Phaholyothin Road in Bang Khen in Bangkok, Om Noi Subdistrict in Krathum Baen, Maha Chai Subdistrict in Mueang Samut Sakhon, and Pak Nam Subdistrict in Mueang Samut Prakan.
The health advisory issued to the public recommends taking precautions, reducing time spent on outdoor activities, or using personal protective equipment, reported KhaoSod.
Those with specific health conditions should also reduce the duration of outdoor activities or use personal protective equipment. If health symptoms occur, consult a doctor immediately.
