Detached blade from rice-cutting machine tragically kills farmer

A tragic accident occurred when a farmer was fatally injured by a detached blade from a rice-cutting machine while harvesting rice in the fields. The blade severed his left leg, causing significant blood loss and ultimately leading to his death in the middle of the field yesterday, July 14.

The incident happened at 1.20pm in a rice field in Phrom Phiram district, Phitsanulok province. Emergency responders at the Burapha Rescue Unit of the Phitsanulok Charity Association reported receiving a distress call regarding a deceased farmer who had been struck by a detached blade from a rice-cutting machine.

Upon arrival at the scene, located on a dirt path in the middle of the rice field, responders found the lifeless body of a man dressed in a white-and-green checkered shirt and black trousers. The victim was identified through his documents as 34 year old Chanintorn. He had suffered a severe injury to his left thigh from the blade, resulting in massive blood loss.

Officers from Phrom Phiram Police Station, along with an on-duty physician, examined the scene. After their initial investigation, volunteers were tasked with transporting the body to Phrom Phiram Hospital’s forensic unit for an autopsy, reported KhaoSod.

The tragic event underscores the importance of safety precautions and proper maintenance of equipment to prevent such accidents. Initial reports suggest that a lack of maintenance or a defect in the machine might have contributed to the blade detaching.
