Danish family in critical road accident on Phuket’s border area
A family of Danish tourists experienced a harrowing road accident in Phuket when their van collided head-on with a pickup truck. The accident, which occurred yesterday on the Mueang Mai-Paara Road in the border area between Thepkrasattri and Pa Klok, Thalang, left all four family members and both drivers injured.
Around 9.30am, the incident was reported to Phongpipat Kamchomphu, the deputy investigator at the Thalang Police Station in Phuket. It was discovered that the van was driven by 23 year old, Kittisak and was carrying the Danish family as passengers. On the other side of the road, a bronze Ford pickup truck, driven by 59 year old Sonthaya, was found with significant front-end damage.
Emergency services from the Pa Klok Municipality and Phuket’s Muang Mai Point were at the scene, providing immediate medical care to all parties involved. The injured individuals, including the Danish family and both drivers, were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Initial investigations suggest that both vehicles were driving in opposite directions on a one-lane road. Kittisak, the van driver, had picked up the Danish family from the airport to take them to the Ao Por pier. On the other hand, Sonthaya, the pickup truck driver, was attempting to overtake another vehicle from the right but failed to do so, resulting in a collision with the oncoming van.
The accident resulted in significant damage to both vehicles and injuries to the parties involved. The authorities have recorded the incident for future reference and arranged for the wreckage to be removed. Further investigation will involve checking CCTV footage to ascertain the actual cause of the accident. The police continue to investigate the scene.
The horrifying incident highlights the unpredictability and potential dangers on the road, particularly for tourists unfamiliar with local driving conditions. The accident serves as a stark reminder for all drivers to exercise caution, respect speed limits and follow traffic regulations to ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road, reported KhaoSod.
