Three iconic bridges over the Chao Phraya River will be illuminated starting tomorrow as part of the nationwide celebrations for the 72nd birthday of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua. The Rural Roads Department announced this festive display, which will continue until next Tuesday, July 30.

Decorative lights will adorn the Bhumibol 1 and 2 Bridges, which connect Bangkok and Samut Prakan, as well as the Maha Chetsadabodinthranuson Bridge in Nonthaburi. This lighting spectacle will run from 7pm to 10pm tomorrow (July 26), Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday, with extended hours until midnight on Monday, July 29.

Numerous activities are being held across the country to honour the king’s birthday, which falls on Sunday (July 28) this year. The Rural Roads Department highlighted that this lighting display aims to promote tourism and showcase the splendour of the Chao Phraya River.

“This initiative not only celebrates the king’s birthday but also enhances the beauty of the Chao Phraya River, encouraging both locals and tourists to appreciate the scenic views.”

The illumination of these bridges is expected to attract many visitors, adding vibrancy to the evening skyline and providing a picturesque backdrop for the celebrations. The Bhumibol 1 and 2 Bridges, named after the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, are significant landmarks, while the Maha Chetsadabodinthranuson Bridge is known for its architectural elegance.

“We believe this will be a memorable event for everyone, reflecting the unity and joy of the Thai people as we celebrate our king’s birthday.”

The lighting display is part of a broader effort to foster a festive atmosphere and bring communities together. It also serves as a reminder of the country’s rich cultural heritage and the importance of the Chao Phraya River in Thai history and daily life.

The Rural Roads Department has ensured that the lighting installations are both environmentally friendly and energy-efficient, aligning with the nation’s commitment to sustainability.

“We have used LED lights to minimise energy consumption while maximising visual impact, ensuring that our celebrations are both spectacular and responsible.”

Local businesses along the river are also preparing for increased foot traffic, with many planning special promotions and events to coincide with the bridge illuminations. This synergy between the public and private sectors highlights the communal spirit of the celebrations, reported Bangkok Post.
