9 month old baby boy survives accident that kills family in Thailand

A nine month old baby boy was the sole survivor of a deadly car accident on Phetchakasem Road in the southern province of Prachuap Khiri Khan, which claimed the lives of his parents and grandmother.

A Thai doctor shared the tragic story of the infant on his clinic’s Facebook page, Yingyos Orthopaedic Clinic, yesterday, April 21. He explained that he had visited the baby, who was admitted to the hospital following the accident.

After reviewing the X-ray before the visit, he found that the boy’s condition was not serious. The baby had a slightly broken leg, which would take about three to four weeks to heal without the need for surgery.

However, the doctor was left shocked after a conversation with the nurse caring for the baby. He included their exchange in the post…

Doctor Yingyos: “Hey, his condition isn’t bad, is it? Can I speak to his parents? I have something I’d like to discuss with them.”
Nurse: “Doctor… his parents have already passed away.”
Doctor Yingyos: “Wait, what?”
Nurse: “His parents and grandmother died in the accident. He is the only survivor. He has no one now.”

The nurse went on to explain that the baby’s father crashed their car into the back of a truck on Phetchakasem Road. The vehicle was completely wrecked but the baby boy miraculously survived because he was seated in a car seat.

The doctor stated, that while he has no plans to be a father, he felt deeply sorry for the boy and hoped he would grow up well and happy.

He highlighted the importance of using car seats, noting that many parents in Thailand do not provide them for their children due to the high cost. He stressed that investing in a proper car seat is always worthwhile when it comes to protecting your child.

The doctor also urged all motorists to drive with caution, especially on Phetchakasem Road, which is long and known to pose a risk of drivers falling asleep at the wheel.

According to the latest update on the case, the baby is now under the care of his aunt, who travelled to Bangkok to collect him. The bodies of the three family members have been transferred back to their home province for a funeral.
