Motorcyclist dies in tragic hit-and-run on Bangkok overpass

A motorcyclist tragically died yesterday after being hit by a car and falling from the Bang Prakaew overpass in Bangkok. The collision involved a BMW, which fled the scene, leaving debris behind.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Suvijak Noisri of Bang Mod Police Station received a report of a road accident at 7.30am, yesterday, April 16, involving a motorcycle and a car on the Bang Prakow overpass. The incident resulted in the motorcyclist, a 45 year old named Amnat Bunrod, falling approximately 7 metres onto the road below and sustaining severe injuries.

Upon arrival, officers and Por Tek Tung Foundation volunteers found evidence of a Honda motorcycle having been struck by a BMW at a curve before the overpass descent on Rama II Road in the Bang Mod area, Chom Thong district.

Despite the motorcyclist being thrown from the bridge, the motorcycle remained on the overpass, 50 metres from the collision site, with its rear severely damaged. BMW parts were found at the scene, suggesting involvement in a hit-and-run.

Amnat, identified as a LINE MAN delivery driver, suffered a broken right leg, abrasions, and a fractured neck. He was dressed in a white t-shirt with a green jacket bearing the LINE MAN logo, black trousers, and was without shoes. Nearby, police found a motorcycle license plate, an orange full-face helmet, and a mobile phone.

Emergency responders performed CPR and coordinated with Erawan medical services. Despite their efforts, Amnat could not be revived, and his death was confirmed at the scene. Police then contacted forensic experts from Siriraj Hospital for an initial examination.

Pop, a 50 year old garland seller, witnessed the accident from beneath the overpass. He reported hearing a loud crash around 6am and saw Amnat land in bushes before ending up on the road, still wearing his helmet. Pop ran to get help from nearby volunteers before Amnat succumbed to his injuries.

Amnat’s wife, 26 year old Jariya Phokasawan, stated that he worked selling motorcycle parts and as a part-time rider during his free time in the mornings and evenings. He enjoyed riding as it allowed him to interact with customers, reported KhaoSod.

Police and forensic experts at Siriraj Hospital are arranging further examination of the body, and the family has been instructed on the process for retrieving Amnat’s body for religious rites.
