Doctor charged for assaulting, stripping teenage boy in Bangkok
Prosecutors have formally charged four individuals, including a doctor, for allegedly assaulting a 14 year old boy in Lak Si district, Bangkok and forcing him to strip. Evidence will be reviewed on December 9. The defendants have been granted temporary release.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor for Criminal Cases 4 submitted a lawsuit against Doctor Weerayuth Naenna, Doctor Weerayut Naenna, and two other suspects, bringing them before the Criminal Court as defendants one to four.
They face multiple charges, including extortion, assault, intimidation, indecent acts against a minor under 15 years of age, harassment, and causing physical or mental harm to a child. The case reportedly involves the assault of a 14 year old boy and forcing him to strip and walk out of Mongkutwattana Hospital. The incident allegedly occurred late at night on May 13.
The lawsuit details that the four defendants coerced the boy into paying a fine of 5,000 baht for smoking within the hospital premises. They threatened to confiscate his mobile phone if he did not comply, causing the boy to fear for his property. Unable to pay the fine, the boy’s phone was taken as collateral against his will.
Dr Weerayuth, identified as the first defendant, allegedly slapped the boy multiple times and dragged him out of Building 3 of Mongkutwattana Hospital. As they exited towards the emergency room, Weerayuth reportedly slapped the boy again, causing him to cry and apologise. The boy knelt and apologised outside the emergency room, but the doctor allegedly continued to assault him by kicking and striking him, causing scratches and bruises.
Furthermore, Weerayuth allegedly forced the boy to remove all his clothing, leaving him in a state where he could not resist. The boy complied and was then made to walk naked along Chaeng Watthana Road in Bangkok.
Court review
The lawsuit claims these actions degraded the boy’s human dignity, constituted harassment, and caused him significant embarrassment and distress. The incident occurred in the Thung Song Hong subdistrict, Lak Si district. The prosecution has requested that Dr Weerayuth’s sentence be combined with a previous suspended sentence from another criminal case.
During the investigation, all four defendants denied the charges. However, Dr Weerayuth admitted to slapping the boy and forcing him to strip but claimed it was intended as a lesson. The court explained the charges to the defendants, who all pleaded not guilty. The court has scheduled an evidence review for December 9 at 9am.
After being charged, the four defendants requested temporary release, which the court granted. Dr Weerayuth maintained that his actions were appropriate and intentional to teach the boy a lesson.
Police have interviewed the 14 year old boy following the charges against Dr Weerayuth. The doctor insisted on verifying the boy’s age, believing him to be over 15, and stated he would not consider mediation, reported KhaoSod.
