Thai weather forecast: Thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and temperature drop predicted
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) predicts severe rainfall and strong gusty winds over the next seven days, followed by a rapid temperature drop of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius. According to the Thai weather forecast, southern Thailand is expected to experience heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of flash floods and forest runoffs.
The Thai weather forecast for the period of November 12 to November 18 indicates that from yesterday to Wednesday, November 15, a new surge of high pressure or cold air mass from China will spread to cover northern Thailand and the South China Sea. This will result in thunderstorms and strong winds in these areas during the initial period.
Subsequently, a slight drop in temperature is expected. The easterly winds covering the Gulf of Thailand and the southern region, coupled with low-pressure areas covering the Malaysian coast, will lead to increased rainfall and heavy downpours in certain areas.
From November 16 to November 18, another rather strong surge of high pressure or cold air mass from China will spread to cover Northern Thailand. This will result in thunderstorms and strong winds in certain areas during the initial period, followed by a drop in temperature and strong winds.
The northeastern region will see a temperature drop of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius, while the north, and central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the eastern region, will experience a temperature drop of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.
The waves in the Gulf of Thailand are expected to be moderate, with a wave height of 1 to 2 metres. Areas with thunderstorms will have waves higher than 2 metres. The Andaman Sea will have waves about 1 metre high, with areas with thunderstorms having waves higher than 2 metres.
Strong winds
Citizens in northern Thailand should be cautious of the dangers from thunderstorms and strong winds that may occur from November 12 to November 13 and November 16. Avoid staying in open areas, under large trees, buildings, and non-sturdy billboards, and be cautious while driving through areas with thunderstorms.
Those in the southern region should be on the lookout for heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may cause sudden floods and forest runoffs, especially in areas near the slope of hills, waterways, and low-lying areas. Boat operators should navigate with caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms during this period.
From November 12 to November 18, the northern region will experience thunderstorms in 20% to 30% of the area from November 12 to November 13, with strong gusty winds in some areas.
The lowest temperature will be 21 to 27 degrees Celsius and the highest temperature will be 32 to 36 degrees Celsius. The wind will be from the east with a speed of 10 to 15 km/h.
From November 14 to November 16, thunderstorms will occur in 10% to 20% of the area, with strong gusty winds in some areas. On November 16, the lowest temperature will be 20 to 26 degrees Celsius and the highest temperature will be 32 to 35 degrees Celsius. The wind will be from the northeast with a speed of 10 to 25 km/h.
From November 17 to November 18, the weather will be cool to cold in the morning and the temperature will drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius with strong winds. The lowest temperature will be 17 to 23 degrees Celsius and the highest temperature will be 30 to 33 degrees Celsius. The wind will be from the northeast with a speed of 10 to 30 km/h, reported KhaoSod.
The TMD urged the public to stay updated on the Thai weather forecast and follow the advice given. The situation will be closely monitored and any urgent weather warnings will be immediately reported.
