Premier League stars tee off in Hua Hin’s inaugural celebrity golf event

October 19 was a rainy day in Hua Hin, but it didn’t make the weekend any less memorable for golf and football fans alike. The inaugural Thailand Celebrity Masters, presented by Orchid Palm Homes, brought together football icons Gary Stevens, Emile Heskey, and Lee Sharpe for a friendly day of golf.

Participants had the rare chance to see these English Premier League legends up close and even play golf alongside them as they swapped their football boots for golf clubs and took to the fairways.

Joining Stevens was Emile Heskey, who is recognised for his strong presence on the field during his time with clubs like Liverpool FC and Leicester City. Having earned over 100 Premier League goals, Heskey has transitioned into coaching and mentoring.

The Thailand Celebrity Masters 2024 began with a welcome party at Anantasila Beach Resort Hua Hin on the evening of Friday, October 18. The main tournament took place the next day at Palm Hills Golf Club, which provides a picturesque setting despite occasional rain showers.

Designed to be accessible for golfers of all skill levels, the tournament followed a Four-Person Texas Scramble format. This team-based approach allowed novices and seasoned players alike to compete alongside the sports legends.

Among those teeing off at Thailand Celebrity Masters 2024 was Thaiger Editor-in-Chief Will Scott. He played with former England internationals Lee Sharpe and Gary Stevens.

“We had a super day out. Lots of fun and lots of great golf. My friend, Andy, and I had the privilege of playing with former England international footballers Lee Sharpe and Gary Stevens. They were extremely humble guys. Lee is a scratch golfer and Gary had a handicap of 10. We started slowly but then played some great golf hitting 12 birdies over the 18 holes.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t make the podium but that didn’t matter as it was all for a good cause. I did get the closest to the pin prize on one hole, however, which was nice. I can’t praise the organisers and sponsors highly enough and look forward to the next one.”

With positive feedback from participants and a growing interest from the community, the Thailand Celebrity Masters looks set to become a fixture in Thailand’s sporting calendar.
