Troops foil vehicle smuggling at Tak province border
Border vigilance thwarts daring escape in high-stakes cross-river trafficking attempt

Troops from the Ratchamanu Task Force detained a vehicle smuggling operation at Tak province, as the suspects attempted to drive a stolen vehicle across the Moei River yesterday, May 6.
Soldiers from the 433rd Company, part of the Ratchamanu Task Force, were conducting patrols and monitoring natural routes in Baan Muen Rue Chai, Phop Phra district, Tak province, when they intercepted a suspicious vehicle.
The vehicle, a gold Toyota Hilux Vigo with the registration plate Phor Sor 7207 from Chiang Mai, was headed towards the Moei River, aiming for the Myanmar side.
Upon inspection, the driver was identified as 26 year old Thanakorn. Displaying suspicious behaviour, he confessed during questioning that he had stolen the vehicle from a church in Ban Muen Rue Chai. He planned to deliver it across the border to Myanmar, receiving 5,000 baht (US$152) in payment for the task.
The officers proceeded to detain Thanakorn and confiscated the vehicle. Both the suspect and the vehicle were handed over to the police at Phop Phra Police Station for legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.
In similar news, a car-rental scheme was abruptly ended after police apprehended two people accused of stealing a vehicle and trafficking it across the border for illicit resale.
In a swift operation, officers from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) and the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) arrested Sakthanan outside a residence in Soi Khlong Thanon, Nonthaburi, and Khemanan at a condominium in Bangkok’s Lat Phrao district. The suspects now face serious legal repercussions: Sakthanan for embezzlement and Khemanan for joint theft.
The investigation began after a rental company filed a report stating that a leased car had not been returned. Police suspect the vehicle was taken into a neighbouring country to be sold illegally.
Police revealed that Khemanan was the mastermind behind the operation, enlisting Sakthanan to receive the rented car.
