Thai nationals arrested for trafficking methamphetamine worth 3 million baht

Two Thai nationals were apprehended in Amnat Charoen province for their involvement in trafficking methamphetamine, known as frung fring pills, mixed with crystal meth.
Police Colonel Nipon Boonkert and the relevant officials arrested 39 year old Suriyan Wongchaiya and 21 year old Akkaraphon Saengphet as they attempted to deliver the drugs at designated locations. Police confiscated 106,000 pills, valued at over 3 million baht (US$89,073).
The arrest followed a routine patrol by the Amnat Charoen Provincial Police’s investigative unit, which spotted a white pickup truck parked on Chayangkun Road in Kaikam subdistrict, Mueang district, Amnat Charoen. A man was seen leaving the vehicle to place items by the roadside before driving towards Ubon Ratchathani province.
Upon investigation, police discovered three bundles containing 6,000 methamphetamine pills, prompting a pursuit of the pickup truck and a call for backup. During the chase, officers noticed a silver pickup truck leading the white vehicle.
The police successfully intercepted both trucks, uncovering an additional 50 bundles with 100,000 pills inside, and detained the two suspects for further questioning.
The suspects confessed to being hired by Laotian people to collect the drugs from the border area in Chanuman district, Amnat Charoen, after they had been smuggled across the border. Their task was to distribute the pills to various agents according to orders, for which they received 50,000 baht (US$1,485) per delivery, reported KhaoSod.
These frung fring methamphetamine pills are reportedly more potent, with a price of 9 baht (US$0.3) per pill before crossing into Thailand and rising to 30 baht (US$0.9) per pill once in the country.
In similar news, police in Lampang province successfully apprehended two Hmong men involved in transporting a large quantity of methamphetamine amounting to six million pills.
Residents assisted in the capture after a high-speed chase. The suspects revealed they were paid 500,000 baht (US$14,680) to drive the vehicle, and police are seeking three more people connected to the operation.
