Six Myanmar teens arrested for assaulting Thai man at temple fair
Six Myanmar teenagers were arrested for assaulting a Thai man, citing an incident at a temple fair where they allegedly stepped on each other’s feet. The police assured that this was an altercation among hot-headed youths, not related to any gang influence.
Yesterday, January 7, at the multi-purpose ground of the Samut Sakhon Provincial Police Headquarters, Samut Sakhon Governor Narit Niramaiwong, along with Police Colonel Teeradate Athipakkul, Deputy Commander of Samut Sakhon Provincial Police, and other officials, held a press conference announcing the arrest of six Myanmar workers.
They were accused of assaulting a Thai individual, identified as 28 year old Worachart, who was injured in the incident. The suspects include 21 year olds Tet Jo and Tae Pai Pew, 22 year old Mew Min So, 19 year old Saitun Lu, and Chun Win Tun.
Seized items included a white-red Honda Wave 125i motorcycle, clothing worn during the incident, and two knives measuring 48 centimetres and 53 centimetres.
The incident occurred on December 22, at around 12.05am, on the roadside near Wat Khlong Khru School, Village 8, Tha Sai subdistrict, Mueang district, Samut Sakhon. Following investigations and CCTV reviews, the suspects were found to be staying in a room at Building 4000, Khok Kham Subdistrict, Mueang District. Police arrested them for questioning.
Initial investigations revealed the altercation stemmed from a music event at a local temple. Both parties were enjoying the event when accidental foot-stepping led to a drunken disagreement, escalating into a physical confrontation that resulted in injuries.
The suspects are being held at Mueang Samut Sakhon Police Station for legal proceedings.
Preliminary charges include illegal entry into Thailand, collective assault causing physical or mental harm, and carrying weapons in public without valid reasons. Samut Sakhon Governor Narit Niramaiwong and Police Colonel Teeradate Athipakkul clarified that this incident was a personal conflict among the youths and not related to any organised crime or gang activities involving Myanmar nationals, reported KhaoSod.
They emphasised that no foreign worker groups have been identified as mafia-like entities in Samut Sakhon.
