Shooting in Sisaket leaves one dead, suspect in custody

A shooting incident in Sisaket has left one man dead and another critically injured. The violent event occurred at a community pavilion in Ban Khon, Mueang district, Sisaket province, when a group of young men opened fire. The assailant has since surrendered to the police.

The incident transpired just after midnight yesterday, April 15. Yailak Jantho, the village headman of Khon subdistrict, guided reporters to the scene where bloodstains and the victims’ motorcycles remained. The shooting took place while Yailak was overseeing an event at a nearby temple.

Upon receiving news of the gunfire, he found two motorcycles overturned and two young men lying on the ground. The police and local hospital were promptly informed.

One victim, dressed in a white shirt and identified as Pee, was shot in the back and head and died at the scene. The other, in a red shirt, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to Samprasitthiprasong Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani province, where he remains in critical condition.

The motive behind the shooting is unclear, though it is suspected to stem from a prior altercation. The age difference between the two groups involved was notable, and the confrontation appeared to have occurred as they were talking, with no indication of a chase or pursuit.

Yailak expressed concern over the brazenness of the attack and called for increased oversight of firearms and the installation of surveillance cameras in the village to aid in evidence collection. He also highlighted the issue of drug proliferation in the area.

Surveillance footage from the scene revealed the use of both shotguns and handguns, with approximately eight shots fired before the assailant approached the victims to confirm the fatality, reported KhaoSod.
