Pathum Thani youths arrested after gun video surfaces online
Royal Thai Police (RTP) apprehended a group of youths involved in shooting a firearm along a road in Pathum Thani and posting the incident on social media. The suspects confessed to buying the gun through a messaging app.
The incident came to light after a video was posted on the Sai Mai Must Survive Facebook page, showing young individuals discharging a gun by the roadside, accompanied by the text, “Do you know whose child I am?” The video, which also mentioned the gang’s name, 5 Pills 100, led police to investigate.
The event occurred on December 14 last year, along the Nonthaburi-Bang Bua Thong Road towards the Bang Khu Wat intersection in Mueang district, Pathum Thani province.
Police Colonel Wiwat Asawawiboon, commander of Mueang Pathum Thani Police Station, instructed Deputy Police Lieutenant Colonel Songkarn Somchit and Lieutenant Colonel Pathompong Srichaitchit, along with an investigation team, to conduct the arrests.
Eighteen year old Phonphon, also known as Tao, was arrested at his residence in Bang Kha Yang subdistrict, Mueang district, Pathum Thani, with three other male youths, 17 to 18 years old.
A five-round 12-gauge shotgun and three rounds of ammunition were seized from a friend’s house in Ban Mai subdistrict.
During questioning, 17 year old Chi, a younger friend, stated the image was old and taken several months ago. He mentioned that his friend, who was arrested, was attending a technology school.
Chi was not present during the incident and claimed that Tao had not mentioned the shooting to him. Regarding the firearm, Chi claimed ignorance about its whereabouts, mentioning only that Tao said he had sold it.
Phonphon admitted to firing the gun and revealed that he bought it through the Line app for 20,000 baht (US$575). Pol. Col. Wiwat explained that the investigation team, in collaboration with Pathum Thani Provincial Police, identified four suspects from the footage.
Two of the four admitted to committing the act shown in the video. The police are currently verifying the details and examining the vehicles used in the incident. The firearm was reportedly purchased online and later resold, reported KhaoSod.
The four suspects, between 17 and 19 year old, are being prosecuted for gathering to consume kratom-infused water. Legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in unlawful activities.
