Major drug bust in Buriram: 24 year old man arrested with meth

A significant drug bust in Buriram province led to the arrest of a 24 year old man, known as Tam, immediately after a ritual intended to ward off bad luck.

Police seized 66,214 methamphetamine tablets, two firearms with 11 bullets, six electronic cigarettes, and a vehicle yesterday, April 9. This operation was part of the government’s urgent anti-drug strategy, Seal Stop Safe, targeting border areas.

Police Major General Narongsak Promtha, Commander of the Buriram Provincial Police, had previously ordered Police Colonel Kongchat Liangsomsub and Police Colonel Siriwat Somkitsiri to intensify drug suppression efforts.

Following these instructions, Deputy Superintendent for Investigation, Police Lieutenant Colonel Wichan Krachangpho, collaborated with various police and military units, including the Narcotics Suppression Unit of the Border Patrol Police Division 21, companies 215 and 216, and local administrative officers, to track down drug networks in the area.

Over the past seven days, the coordinated efforts resulted in 15 drug-related cases, leading to the arrest of 18 people between 15 and 44 years old. Despite these successes, police noted that several members of the network remain at large.

The network is known for its transient nature, with many people having prior drug convictions, including a 15 year old who had previously been detained for drug offences.

In anticipation of the upcoming Songkran festival, police have devised plans to prevent drug trafficking, which often occurs during such busy periods when law enforcement resources are stretched.

As part of these preparations, special emphasis is being placed on traffic management and inspections to curb drug movements.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Narongsak commended the investigative team for their perseverance, particularly in the case of Tam, who was the 13th suspect in the operation.

Officers patiently waited over two hours for his arrest, as he was involved in a ritual conducted by a renowned spiritual healer in Sawaijik subdistrict, Mueang district, Buriram.

Despite his parents’ hopes to rid him of bad influences, the arrest took place mere moments after the ceremony concluded, right outside the healer’s residence, reported KhaoSod.
