Bangkok is No.1 most popular tourist destination on Agoda in 2022

Online travel booking platform Agoda reveals that Bangkok takes the No.1 spot as the world’s hottest holiday destination this year, according to its latest booking data assessment.

The removal of Covid-19-related entry requirements such as Test & Go and the Thailand Pass is thought to have driven the City of Angels to the top of the list this summer.

Indian travellers are booking the most holidays in Thailand, followed by Indonesian, Singaporean, French and Swiss travellers. Thailand is also the top choice for Japanese, Malaysian and Vietnamese tourists booking foreign holidays this summer.

“Worldwide, we are seeing international travel coming back this year as travel restrictions have eased, proving people have been looking forward to travelling internationally again for the past two years. Travellers are making the most of the holidays and are keen to visit domestic and international destinations in Asia,” said Agoda CEO Omri Morgenshtern.

Reliving memories and going back to places they once enjoyed is the summer theme. At Agoda, we strive to enable even more people to travel by providing best-in-class travel options on the website and app, with great deals on accommodation and flights and great things to do as travel continues to return to normal.”

The current list uses data from holidays which are already booked, but Thailand also took the #1 spot as the most searched destination in the world on Agoda back in March this year.

Before Thailand’s entry requirements were relaxed, Thai travel enthusiasts praised Agoda for integrating its booking data with the Thailand Pass system, making the paperwork and pre-arrival processes much smoother.

As for outbound Thai travel, Agoda’s booking data between May and August this year reveals that South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, France and the UK are the top five destinations for Thais looking to explore the world post-pandemic.
