United States President Donald Trump has tested positive for Covid-19. He announced on Twitter that both he and his wife Melania Trump have tested positive for the virus and are now in isolation.

“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER.”

The US presidential election is on November 3. It’s unclear how the infection will affect the 74 year old president’s run in the election. There has little information forthcoming from the White House at this time concerning the elderly president’s condition.

In a report from the New York Times, the president’s physician Sean P. Conley says the president was “well,” but did not confirm if he was asymptomatic.

“The president and first lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence… Rest assured I expect the president to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments.”

Melania has also posted on her Twitter account saying that both her and her husband are “feeling good.”

“As too many Americans have done this year, @potus & I are quarantining at home after testing positive for COVID-19. We are feeling good & I have postponed all upcoming engagements. Please be sure you are staying safe & we will all get through this together.”

Mr. Trump has been criticised for not taking the virus seriously. Just last night, the president said the “end of the pandemic is in sight,” according to the New York Times. Early on in the pandemic he said “it will pass.”

He was tested for the virus after his top aide Hope Hicks tested positive for Covid-19. He said both him and the First Lady were in isolation while they waited for their test results.
