Supersmash: SuperCheap truck delivers chaos in Phuket
A SuperCheap delivery truck yesterday caused havoc in the car park of the Eua-Athorn Housing Authority estate in Srisoonthorn, Moo 1 when it smashed into two parked pickup trucks. The police are still in the process of contacting the pickup trucks’ owners.
The incident was reported to Police Lieutenant Kraisorn Bunprasop of the Thalang Police Station around 4.10pm, yesterday, April 2. The scene of the accident was in front of Building 51 at the government housing estate.
On arrival, officers found a white Hino truck registered in Phuket had crashed head-on into a Toyota four-door pickup truck. The impact was so severe that the Toyota pickup had its rear end lifted into the air as it was pushed onto a tree.
Adjacent to the delivery truck was a white Isuzu pickup registered in Phang Nga, which had overturned on its side, sustaining heavy damage.
The usual driver of the delivery truck, Ko Ko Aung, was present at the scene. He explained that although he is typically the one behind the wheel, he was not in the truck when the accident occurred. According to Aung, he and 20 year old Akar Hein from Myanmar were delivering water to Building 86 at the estate. While Aung was outside the truck tallying the delivery, Hein entered the truck and started the engine.
In a twist of events, Hein stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake, which caused the truck to lunge forward. The truck ran into the first pickup and pushed it across the car park until it hit the second pickup before it finally came to a stop, said Hein.
“I don’t know, but I went to step on the brake but stepped on the accelerator, causing the truck to crash.”
Miraculously, no one was injured in the incident. The delivery truck and both pickups were taken to Thalang Police Station as police continued their investigation. At the time of filing the police report, officers were still trying to contact the owners of the pickups to inform them of the damage caused by the incident, reported Phuket News.
