A three storey building and scaffolding collapsed in Rawai at 2.15pm Sunday afternoon, killing one person and injuring many other workers. The construction site is for the VIP Mercury Condominium project on Wiset Road in Rawai – near the Rawai Municipality Office heading towards Nai Harn Beach Park (map below).

Eight people were rushed to Chalong Hospital, Vachira Phuket Hosital and Dibuk Hospital, whilst two people are now listed as officially missing.

Emergency responders rushed to the site to keep onlookers away as well as providing first aid to the injured and sent eight injured workers to hospital. An initial investigation speculates that the scaffolding may not have been able to bear the increased weight after workers poured cement on the steel structure.
Rawai Mayor Aroon Solos was quickly onsite to assist with the emergency services and oversee the situation.
