Phuket sting operation: man arrested with meth in rubber plantation

A coordinated sting operation led by the Thalang District Administrative Special Operations Unit resulted in the arrest of a man in Thalang, Phuket. Thousands of methamphetamine pills and a significant amount of crystal meth were discovered hidden in a rubber plantation.

The arrest was announced during a press conference on April 18. Among those present were Phuket Vice Governor Adul Chuthong, Phuket Provincial Chief Administration Officer Thiraphong Chuaychu, and Thalang District Chief Siwat Rawangkun. Vice Governor Adul explained that officers had received a tip-off about a man suspected of selling drugs to teenagers in Baan Yamu, located in Moo 7, Pa Khlok.

Utilising this information, officers set up an undercover operation where an agent bought 100 methamphetamine pills, known locally as Yaba, for 2,400 baht (US$72).

The suspect, identified as James, was apprehended at a pre-arranged roadside meeting point in Baan Yamu at 3pm. Police confiscated 101 methamphetamine pills along with the marked money used in the operation.

During interrogation, James allegedly admitted to concealing additional drugs in bushes within the rubber plantation. A subsequent search revealed a substantial haul of 6,932 Yaba pills and 182.97 grammes of crystal meth, referred to as ya ice, reported The Phuket News.

Vice Governor Adul highlighted that this operation is part of an ongoing effort to combat drug-related crime and enhance public safety in Phuket province.

Around 4am on April 2, troops from the Surasak Montri Task Force, specifically Ranger Company 2104, carried out a surveillance mission along a footpath behind the cemetery in Ban Woen, Mueang subdistrict, Phon Phisai district, leading to the significant bust.
