Tourist Police crack down on illegal tour operators in Pattaya

The Tourist Police Bureau’s Investigation Division arrested several individuals operating illegal tour businesses in a decisive move to safeguard Thailand’s tourism industry.

This operation, under the direction of Police Lieutenant General Saksira Pueak-am, Commander-in-Chief of the Tourist Police Bureau, alongside his Deputy Commanders in Cheif Police Majaor General Phongsayam Mee-khanthong and Police Majar General Kritsana Warit, underscores the government’s commitment to promoting and protecting tourism.

The Tourist Police Bureau, tasked with the safety of both Thai and foreign tourists, has been actively suppressing illegal activities by illegal tour businesses that harm the image of Thailand’s tourism sector. The recent crackdown targeted unauthorised tour operators, a significant source of damage to the industry.

Led by the Chief of Investigation, Police Colonel Songwut Chueaplakit, and the Deputy Chief of Investigation, Police Lieutenant Colonel Piyapong Raksa, the team focused on identifying and apprehending individuals running unauthorised tour businesses and foreigners working illegally as tour guides.

Their efforts align with the Tourist Business and Guide Act B.E. 2551 (2008) and its amendments.

Yesterday, August 24, at approximately 12.30pm, the Investigation Division (Region 2) conducted an inspection at the 4 Regions Floating Market in Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri province. They discovered a grey Honda, driven by a Chinese national, Hao (surname withheld), who was guiding three foreign tourists.

The 41 year old tour guide was found providing tour services, a profession reserved exclusively for Thai nationals in which work permits are not available. Upon inspection, police found receipts for entrance fees to various tourist attractions in his possession.

Hao admitted to conducting the tour independently, charging 500 yuan (2,380 baht) per day for six days, totalling 3,000 yuan, reported Pattaya News.

This operation underscores the Tourist Police Bureau’s continuous efforts to uphold regulations and protect the integrity of Thailand’s tourism industry. By targeting illegal tours, the bureau aims to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere for all visitors to the country.
